Retrievers Take Tight Tilt
|
Houston Grounds was the site of the home opener for the Houston 1837 BBC. The contest featured a prime matchup between Aurelio López of the visiting Northern Virginia Retrievers and Makoto Kato of the 1837 BBC. The final score was 3-2, the Retrievers getting the win. Earning player of the game honors was Aurelio López. Ilie Paunescu recorded the save for Northern Virginia, his 1st of the season.
In the top of the 5th, Northern Virginia took the lead on a 2-run double by Brett Callison. At the time, the Retrievers were trailing 2-1, but Callison's hit with two outs against Houston pitcher Lee Branch put them in front, 3-2.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Northern Virginia manager David Lenlister. "Our pregame was pretty good."
