The bad news for the Ft. Worth Cattlemen: an opening day loss, 6-5, to the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC at The Cattle Pen. The good news: it was just game one in a long season. Earning player of the game honors was David Smith. He hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Thunder Bay reliever Jorge Castillo got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Jason Horne was tagged with the loss.

Arnold Griffith's hit in the top of the tenth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from Jason Horne for a run-scoring double. It put Thunder Bay in front, 6-5.
