Delaware Bats Go Silent in 2-0 Loss
|
Tavárez never let Delaware get something going. The Highwood left-hander commanded his curveball in pitching the Hawks to a win. The winning pitcher was Tavárez, now 2-2. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 3. The Hawks saw their record improve to 20-12.
Tied up with the 1787 BC in the top of the sixth, the Hawks got a boost from shortstop Reg Spiers. With a runner on 1st, Spiers saw a 0-1 cutter from Masami Kogawa and hit a run-scoring double to break the stalemate and put Highwood on top, 1-0.
"I like our moxie," said Highwood Hawks manager John Muńóz.
