Bruins Hang 5-2 Loss on Herons
|
Hammond got a terrific performance from pitcher Ernest Hawks, but it wasn't enough to beat the Bellevue Bruins. Bellevue won the Bellevue Field contest, 5-2. Hawks was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings allowing 5 runs. Brendan Shull locked down his 4th save. The win lifts Bellevue to a record of 10-9.
The Bruins beat the Herons in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the double Mitchell Cusimano produced in the bottom of the fifth. Batting against Hammond pitcher Ernest Hawks, he gave his team a 4-2 lead when he hit a 2-run double.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Cusimano said after the game.
