Screaming Eagles Win Thriller, 6-5
|
The Screaming Eagles faced a stiff challenge from Asheville pitcher José Luján, but persevered to claim a win at Mercer Island Grounds. The final score was 6-5. Luján went 6.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Mercer Island reliever Lucas Cobb picked up the win, upping his record to 2-3. Bobby Irvine was saddled with the loss. The Screaming Eagles, at 55-46, lead by one game in their division.
Leonardo Ramírez was the walk-off hero for Mercer Island. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, the Mercer Island designated hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It's great to get the crowd pumped up," Ramírez said.
