Misfits Best Screaming Eagles in Pitching Duel
|
The Salem Misfits went home winners at Mercer Island Grounds, thanks in large part to starter Marv Bradford. Bradford silenced the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, enabling Salem to grab the 2-1 win. Bradford, now 8-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 7, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. The Misfits sit in third place in the Premier AA with a record of 35-29.
Tied up with the Screaming Eagles in the top of the fifth, the Misfits got a boost from shortstop Chris Thurman. With a runner on 2nd, Thurman saw a 2-2 cutter from Raúl Pérez and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Salem on top, 2-1.
Said Salem manager Bill Clark: "I tell our guys all the time: 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction.'"
