Loons Stay Hot, Beat Screaming Eagles
|
Minnesota shortstop Wilson Vega was a significant contributor in his team's 5-2 triumph over the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles. He was 2-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for Minnesota. Roy Shively, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 4-4. Domingo Velasco closed the door for Minnesota, picking up his 11th save of the year.
Vega had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the fourth. On a 2-2 fastball from Tomiji Saikawa, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Loons a 3-0 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Vega.
"It was a solid team effort," said Vega after the game.
