Misfits Walk Off with 5-4 Win
|
Salem starter Carlos Costello had a strong outing against the Asheville Highlanders at Ricochets Ballpark. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-4 win. Salem reliever Kelly Henry was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Bobby Irvine took the loss for Asheville. At 25-15, Salem is in first place in the Premier AA.
In the bottom of the ninth, with no one out and the game tied, 4-4, designated hitter Fernando Sánchez won it for Salem. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Sánchez hit a 1-0 fastball from Bobby Irvine for a run-scoring double, giving his team a 5-4 win.
"Carlos is tough when he's hitting his spots," said Salem manager Bill Clark.
