Asheville starter Elend Venture pitched effectively against the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles at Mercer Island Grounds. The right-hander led his team to a 8-3 win. Their 19-19 record puts the Highlanders 4th in the Premier AA.

In the top of the first, Miguel Montoya ambushed a 0-1 fastball from Fernando Reyna and hit a solo home run. It gave Asheville a quick 1-0 lead.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Montoya.
