Highlanders Win, Hope to Turn around Slow Start
|
The Asheville Highlanders stymied the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 4-2, at Asheville Park. Thomas Morris, who had a good day at the plate, was named player of the game. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for Asheville. The Highlanders, with just their 2nd win so far in 2026, have yet to catch fire.
Morris contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Asheville in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Morris took a fastball from Valentín Rivera and stroked the home run to right-center. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Highlanders to leap in front, 4-2.
"We'll build on this win," said Morris.
