Great Lakers Stick Nobles with 4-3 Loss
|
The Pure Michigan Great Lakers picked up a win at Jerome Grounds, knocking off the Bakersfield Nobles, 4-3. On the mound for Pure Michigan was right-hander Donald Gregory, who played a pivotal role in the win. Gregory, now 9-2, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 2, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. The Great Lakers improved to 34-27.
A defensive miscue in the top of the seventh could have cost the Great Lakers. With Pure Michigan leading 2-1, John Thompson reached on an error by the right fielder, driving in 2 runs. In the end, Pure Michigan was still able to win the ballgame.
"We came out with the short end of the stick," said Bakersfield skipper James Wheeler.
