Fans of the Galesburg Guzzlers who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Galesburg win over the visiting Hammond Herons, 2-1. César Albó started for the home team against Alberto Mendoza. Alberto Mendoza earned the coveted player of the game honors. Galesburg reliever Ernst Chia was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Alberto Mendoza. Geoff Stackhouse earned the save, his 1st, for the Guzzlers.

Galesburg took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and a runner on 2nd, Benedict Patel stroked a run-scoring single to make it 2-1, Guzzlers.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Patel.
