Mermen Edge San Bernardino in Pitching Duel
San Bernardino wasted a solid 6.1-inning effort from starting pitcher Manny Merico, losing to Myrtle Beach, 1-0, at Tennille Grounds. Myrtle Beach reliever Culley Adjeng picked up the win to move to 3-1. Manny Merico suffered the loss. Rob Rocha got credit for the save for Myrtle Beach. It was his 5th of the year.

Tied up with the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the fifth, the Mermen got a boost from shortstop Sal Haynes. With a runner on 3rd, Haynes saw a 1-0 cutter from Manny Merico and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Myrtle Beach on top, 1-0.

"I still think this team has room for improvement," Haynes told the Myrtle Beach Observer.

The Mermen now have a record of 51-42.
