Grasshoppers Bump Off Deuces, 8-5
|
Fans who came to Field of the Grasshoppers watched the San Bernardino Grasshoppers and the Virginia Beach Deuces fight to the finish.
The San Bernardino Grasshoppers stopped the Virginia Beach Deuces, 8-5, at Field of the Grasshoppers. The Grasshoppers got a big game from William O'Keefe, who went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. San Bernardino starter Manny Merico was credited with the win after throwing 116 pitches over 7.1 innings. His record now stands at 4-5.
Jaime López, the San Bernardino second baseman, contributed a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 5-3, Grasshoppers. For the game, López was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Virginia Beach manager Raúl Méndez. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
With the win, the Grasshoppers improved to 31-42.
