Deuces Stick Mermen with 3-2 Loss
|
The Virginia Beach Deuces did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the Myrtle Beach Mermen at Virginia Beach Grounds. Nobody did more than pitcher Roberto Gómez, who captured player of the game honors. Gómez got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 6 hits and walked 0 over 7 innings. Gómez allowed 1 earned run. Aurelio Ornelas earned the save for Virginia Beach, his 14th.
In the bottom of the third inning, catcher Carlos Pérez came through big-time for the Deuces. With Virginia Beach leading 1-0, he belted a 2-run home run.
Gómez called the win "a collective effort."
