The Glendale Herons turned back the Richland Rails, 6-2, at Rails Ballpark. Daniel Maldonado was named player of the game for his fine performance. He went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Glendale now owns a record of 38-29.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the seventh inning when the Herons sent teenager Ruud van Ineveld to the plate against Rails hurler Léonard Moreau. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a triple off a 1-0 fastball to score 2.
"We played a good game and came out on top," said Maldonado.
