Kennerly goes 3-for-3 as Mermen Squeeze Past Ottawa
|
It was a fun time at Tennille Grounds, where the Ottawa Nationals and Myrtle Beach Mermen tangled.
Getting a good performance from third baseman Ben Kennerly, the Myrtle Beach Mermen defeated the Ottawa Nationals, 9-2. Kennerly was 3 for 3 with a home run, a triple, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3 for the Mermen. Gordon Fry picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 5. On the season, he is now 4-1. Guus Ketting got the save, the 3rd for him this season.
Kennerly had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the third. On a 2-2 circle change from António Fabián, he banged a 3-run home run to left-center, giving the Mermen a 3-0 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Kennerly.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Myrtle Beach Mermen manager Junior Benítez.
At 34-27, the Mermen find themselves in second place in the Menard's AA.
