Nationals Get One-Run Win at Virginia Beach
|
The Ottawa Nationals got a stellar performance from pitcher Preston Connely, who handcuffed the Virginia Beach offense en route to a 5-1 win at Virginia Beach Grounds. Connely went 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-5. The Nationals now own a record of 20-27.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the third, with the game tied, Louis Espinosa was at the plate when Ottawa scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Nationals to go in front, 1-0.
In comments to the Ottawa Observer, Espinosa admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
