Nationals Hang 4-3 Loss on Shooters
|
The Springfield Shooters got a superb performance from pitcher Giovanni Mireles. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Ottawa. The Nationals won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Mireles was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 5-hit ball. Ottawa reliever Norberto Flores picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Giovanni Mireles absorbed the loss. Rafael Peralta got credit for the save for Ottawa. It was his 9th of the year.
Had it not been for Jim Unknown, the results might have been different. In the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Nationals were trailing 3-2, Unknown hit a 2-run home run for Ottawa, giving his team the lead.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Unknown told the Ottawa Observer.
The Nationals now have a record of 15-20 with the win over Springfield.
