Late Rally by Deuces Secures Win
|
The Virginia Beach Deuces topped the Westwood Sixshooters, 4-3, in M3L Double A action at Sixshooters Stadium. The player of the game was Virginia Beach pitcher Gabriel Herrera. The winning pitcher was Herrera, now 2-2. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Aurelio Ornelas picked up the save for Virginia Beach, his 5th of the year.
The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out, Luis Jelarde hit a 3-1 cutter from Omar Casteneda for a run-scoring single. It put Virginia Beach in front, 4-3.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Westwood skipper Davis Burt, "and it cost us."
The Virginia Beach Deuces, now 14-5, have been on fire in the early going.
