Springfield Shooters starter Atila Freska pitched a strong game against the Myrtle Beach Mermen at Tennille Grounds, leading the Shooters to a 3-2 win. Walt Cooley closed the game out for Springfield, earning his 3rd save. The Mermen fall to 7-11 and continue their unimpressive start to the 2026 season.

The most important at-bat for Springfield came in the top of the ninth inning, when second baseman Frank Crocker stroked a 2-0 fastball to right for a run-scoring single, putting Springfield up, 3-2.

"For the most part, I stayed out of the middle of the plate," Freska said.
