Sonics Slip Past Ottawa, 4-2
|
The Sonics took Ottawa pitcher Preston Connely's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Nationals Park. The final score was 4-2. Connely went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Atlantic City reliever José Cabrera picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Rafael Peralta took the loss. Apollo Cepeda locked down his 5th save.
Gianpaolo Monachino found himself in a pressure situation in the top of the ninth. Facing Ottawa hurler Rafael Peralta, the 21-year-old third baseman hit a sacrifice fly. His 5th RBI of the season put the Sonics on top, 3-2.
"I was a little disappointed," said Ottawa manager Ron Mathews. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
Atlantic City, now 10-6, has gotten their season off to a good start.
