In a close game at Evergreen Park, the Greenville 84s edged the Portland Evergreens, 5-3. Greenville third baseman Yoshihito Saikawa earned the nod as player of the game after he was 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Greenville reliever José Rico was credited with the win, to go to 4-4. Vincente Ortíz took the loss for Portland. With the win, the 84s improved to 36-58.

The most crucial at-bat for Greenville came in the top of the tenth inning. That's when Saikawa stroked a 2-1 slider to center for a 2-run single, putting Greenville up, 5-3.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Portland manager Imran Baig. "But we decided not to take it."
