Republics Jolt 84s with Late Rally
|
Greenville got a terrific performance from pitcher Gary Barber, but it wasn't enough to beat the New Amsterdam Republics. New Amsterdam won the Dutch Master Park contest, 4-3. Barber was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 5-hit ball. New Amsterdam, now 47-44, holds 7th place in the Division III.
One important at-bat came with a runner on 1st in the bottom of the eighth. That's when Hank Wilder, who leads the 3L in hits with 129, hit a single. The Republics went on to win.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Wilder told the New Amsterdam Today.
