Evergreens Go Down to Defeat, 3-2
|
The Portland Evergreens were defeated, 3-2, by the New Amsterdam Republics. Leading the charge for New Amsterdam was shortstop Hank Wilder. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Ron Madison earned the save, his 19th, for the Republics. The 7th-place Republics are now 43-37, the Evergreens 31-49.
Cory Hansen's at-bat in the bottom of the fourth was significant for the Republics. Coming to the plate with a runner on 3rd and New Amsterdam leading 2-1, the first baseman grounded out, driving in 1 run.
Hansen called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
