Evergreens Continue Skid, Thanks to Ryan, Gold Sox
|
Arthur Ryan was instrumental in his team's 12-2 triumph over the Portland Evergreens. The left fielder was 4-5 with a home run, 3 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Chicago Gold Sox. Kenshin Koike got the win, improving to 4-1. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The Chicago winning streak has now reached 4 games.
The Gold Sox beat the Evergreens in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the home run Joe Cashmore produced in the top of the second. Batting against Portland pitcher Juan 聲gel, he gave his team a 3-0 lead when he hit a 3-run home run.
Cashmore told the Chicago News: "This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents. Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
