The Boston Patriots knocked off the D.C. Divided, 8-7, at Dunkin Donuts Park. Gabriel Maldonado, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Boston won. The catcher was 2 for 2 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Boston is 35-26 and D.C., with the loss, 30-31.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 12th. That's when Boston right fielder Karl Schultz, facing Gabriel Hidalgo, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Patriots the 8-7 win.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling pretty confident after that win," said Schultz.
