The Targaryens took Bakersfield pitcher Bernie Sanders's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Jerome Grounds. The final score was 2-1. Sanders went 7.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Wally Wilkerson, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 5 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 1-1. Frank Castle got credit for the save for Royse City. It was his 2nd of the year.
Tomás Martínez's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a curveball from Pedro Álvarez for a 2-run home run. It put Royse City in front, 2-1.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Martínez. "Just do my job."
The loss drops Bakersfield to 7-3.
