|
The Vermont Lake Monsters defeated the Tortolita Drummers, 5-3, at Monster Field. Vermont catcher Rodrigo Velasco was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 2 for 3 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jim Unknown, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 9 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 1-0. Jim Unknown got the save, the 1st for him this season.
Vermont grabbed control in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, Ray John delivered a 2-run single, to make it 5-3 in favor of the Lake Monsters.
In comments to the Vermont Chronicle, John admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
Vermont, at 54-47, occupies 4th place in the Silver AAA.
