Oaks Top Renaissance, 6-5
|
Oakland beat Detroit at Oakland Coliseum, escaping with a 6-5 win. The win in large part was due to third baseman Jesús Quintanilla, who earned player of the game honors. He was 2-3 with a triple, while adding 3 RBI. Oakland starter José García was credited with the win after throwing 101 pitches over 5.2 innings. His record now stands at 8-1. José Caballero closed the game out for Oakland, earning his 17th save.
Quintanilla came through with some timely hitting for Oakland. With the score 2-0 in the bottom of the second and one down, Quintanilla hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run triple. It was his 1st triple of the season -- and a big reason the Oaks managed to win.
In comments to the Oakland Gazette, Quintanilla insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
The 6th-place Oaks improved to 31-29.
