The Lake Monsters faced a stiff challenge from Houston pitcher Mike Owens, but persevered to claim a win at Houston Park. The final score was 4-3. Owens went 7 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Alberto Robles picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 4-5. Decheng Sun was tagged with the loss. With the win, Vermont goes to 50-46, while the BC fall to 54-42.
The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out, Showander Descarte hit a first pitch fastball from Decheng Sun for a 2-run home run. It put Vermont in front, 4-3.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Descarte.
