Timber Hawks Come Back Late to Clip Fighting Dachsunds
|
The Augusta Timber Hawks beat the Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds, 5-4, at Dog Park in Ellenburg. The Timber Hawks got a fine performance from designated hitter Claudio Mendoza, who captured player of the game honors. He was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles, while adding 3 RBI. Augusta reliever Iván Flores got the win, raising his record to 2-2. Sean Evans was tagged with the loss. Augusta's record now stands at 47-49, placing them 7th in the Silver AAA.
The most important at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With one out, Sean Evans threw a full count fastball to Mendoza, which he hit to left for a 2-run double. It put Augusta in front, 5-4.
"Winning never gets old," said Mendoza.
