Both teams had their chances, but the Jersey City Sun Caps eventually prevailed at Pennsauken Park.
Behind a solid performance from center fielder Gerald Kaufman, the Jersey City Sun Caps defeated the Pennsauken Flyers, 5-2. Kaufman was 4-4 with a triple, 3 singles, and a walk for the Sun Caps. Ricardo Rodríguez got the win, improving to 6-10. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 9 and walking 2.
The Sun Caps beat the Flyers in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the triple Salvador Pineda produced in the top of the second. Batting against Pennsauken pitcher Augusto Ramos, he gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring triple.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Kaufman told the Jersey City Herald.
Jersey City, at 48-47, occupies 5th place in the Silver AAA.
