Men Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Fighting Dachsunds
|
The Florida Men turned back the Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds, 8-4, at Dog Park in Ellenburg. Juan Carlos Cruz was named player of the game for his fine performance. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Gordon Wiggins, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 4 runs on 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 3-12. Today's win puts Florida at 17-61, while Ellenburg falls to 37-41.
The game turned with two out in the top of the eighth when Cruz, who is tied for 2nd in the SAAA in doubles with 17, hit a grand slam home run. It propelled the Men into the lead, 8-4.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Florida Men manager Brian Atkins. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
