Big Day at the Plate for Womack Not Enough
|
Vermont first baseman Henry Womack was sensational. He went 2 for 2 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Florida beat the Lake Monsters, 11-5. Womack was named the player of the game despite the loss. Floyd Cotton finished the game for Florida and earned his 1st save. The Men sit in last place in the Silver AAA with a record of 16-56.
Also playing a key role was Al Thomas. The Florida designated hitter hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh. For the game, Thomas was 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 5 runs and scored once.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Thomas, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
