Hotspur Reserves Take Down Lake Monsters, 8-4
|
The Phoenix Hotspur Reserves turned back the Vermont Lake Monsters, 8-4, at Thunderbirds Stadium. Alex Niemann was named player of the game for his fine performance. He was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. Phoenix reliever Bob Cook was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was Jurgen Sagebrecht. The Hotspur Reserves bumped their record to 38-18 with this latest triumph.
Tied up with the Lake Monsters in the bottom of the seventh, the Hotspur Reserves got a boost from catcher Júlio Mateo. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Mateo saw a 2-1 cutter from Jurgen Sagebrecht and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Phoenix on top, 4-3.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Niemann told the Phoenix Citizen.
