The 2026 season did not get off to quite the start the Houston BC had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Florida Men at Houston Park. The final score was 5-3. Starting Pitcher Brian Scalabrine was named player of the game for Florida. Florida reliever José Ybarra was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Mark Collingwood took the loss. Alberto Ríos earned the save, his 1st.

Israel Sanders contributed a productive at-bat in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run. It was one at-bat that helped Florida get the win.

In comments to the Florida Today, Sanders admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
