Deuces Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Thunder Hawks
|
The Virginia Beach Deuces did just enough to sneak past the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 4-3, at Thunder Hawks Ballpark. Virginia Beach pitcher Miguel Álvarez earned player of the game honors. Aurelio Ornelas earned the save, his 1st. The win lifts Virginia Beach to a record of 1-1.
The Deuces beat the Thunder Hawks in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the single Félix González produced in the top of the eighth. Batting against Ft. Polk South pitcher Randall McLean, he gave his team a 4-3 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Álvarez. "Successful pitchers do it."
