Grasshoppers, López Pin Bad Loss on Rails

The Richland Rails inaugurated the 2026 campaign with a disappointing 16-2 loss to the San Bernardino Grasshoppers at Rails Ballpark. San Bernardino third baseman Jaime López had a big impact on the outcome. He went 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 7. Delmar Llerena was the winning pitcher. Over 9 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 9 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
When the Grasshoppers needed a boost, it was the light-hitting López who delivered. Facing Richland pitcher Manuel Morales the top of the sixth with the bases loaded, López hit his 1st home run of the year. It made the score 12-2.
"We took it on the chin today," said losing manager Paul Baker.
