The Salt Lake City Buzz inaugurated the 2026 campaign with a disappointing 7-4 loss to the Santa Barbara Golden Cranes at Spirits Stadium. Santa Barbara left fielder Sixto Álvarez had a big impact on the outcome. He went 2-3 with a double and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Joey McCarthy, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 9. His record now stands at 1-0.
