Nuggets Go Down to Defeat, 3-2
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Nuggets Park. But Melvin Castro conjured up just enough offense to carry the Gold Sox past the Rocky Mountain Nuggets, 3-2. Castro was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Javier Dávila was the winning pitcher. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, with no walks and 5 strikeouts. Chris Rogers recorded his 4th save for Chicago.
Castro contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Chicago in the top of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Castro took a fastball from Nathaniel Riley and stroked the home run to left. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Gold Sox to leap in front, 2-1.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Castro said in reaction to the win.
The loss drops Rocky Mountain to 6-5.
