New Amsterdam Republics starter Bobby Swain was in fine form against the Philadelphia 1776 BC at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum, leading his team to a 4-3 win. New Amsterdam reliever Ramón Lara was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Bill Maddox took the loss for Philadelphia 1776. Ron Madison closed the door for New Amsterdam, picking up his 1st save of the year.
New Amsterdam grabbed control in the top of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Hank Wilder delivered a run-scoring double, to make it 4-3 in favor of the Republics.
Philadelphia 1776 manager Kyle Norton said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The New Amsterdam Republics, now 2-0, have been on a roll in the early going.
