Evergreens Saddle Gold Sox with 4-2 Loss
|
The Portland Evergreens put one in the win column on Opening Day at Evergreen Park. The Evergreens defeated the Chicago Gold Sox, 4-2. Portland right fielder Chris Williamson was instrumental in his team's success. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Austin Stewart earned the win for Portland. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits, while striking out 2. With the win, he raised his record to 1-0.
Williamson came through with some timely hitting for Portland. With the score 2-0 in the bottom of the second and two down, Williamson hit a 2-2 fastball for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season -- and a big reason the Evergreens managed to win.
