Oakland pitcher José García gave the Retrievers all they could handle, but in the end, Northern Virginia left Oakland Coliseum with a 4-2 win. García allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits over 7.1 innings. Harold Elkins, credited with the win, is now 2-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Ilie Paunescu locked down his 4th save.
The most important at-bat for Northern Virginia came in the top of the 11th inning, when pinch hitter Gil Moore stroked a 1-1 cutter to left for a 2-run home run, putting Northern Virginia up, 4-2.
"I really like what we did out there today," Moore said after the game.
With the loss, Oakland sinks to 10-6.
