Blaze Squelch Gwinnett County Offense in Shutout Win
|
In a low-scoring game between the South Beach Blaze and the Gwinnett County Black Cats, pitcher Carlos Ortega was masterful on the mound. The South Beach right-hander was named the player of the game in South Beach's 3-0 win. Picking up the save was Héctor Tista, his 3rd. South Beach is third in the Premier A with a record of 56-39.
José Rico went 1 for 4. He drove in 3 runs for South Beach. The 20-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. That's when he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Luis Arreola. It was his 53rd RBI of the season.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Kenny Billings.
