Multi-HR Day for Vargas as Oaks Overpower Grey Wolves, 8-7
|
The Oakland Oaks stopped the Vancouver Grey Wolves, 8-7, at Wolf Den in Vancouver. The Oaks got a big game from Jorge Vargas, who went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Oakland reliever Júlio Saldaña got the win, raising his record to 1-0. David Hudson was tagged with the loss. Mark Simmons closed the game out for Oakland, earning his 3rd save.
The most important at-bat for Oakland came in the top of the ninth inning, when shortstop Micah Coffey stroked a first pitch fastball to right for a 2-run home run, putting Oakland up, 8-7.
"We maximized our offense today," said Oakland skipper DAshley GoAs. "That makes everyone's life easier."
It was the 9th win in 13 games this year for the defending champion Oaks, who are picking up where they left off.
