Airmen Continue Skid, Thanks to Rico, Blaze
|
The South Beach Blaze beat the Alameda Airmen, 6-3, at The Ballpark on the Beach. South Beach first baseman José Rico earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 2-2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Valentín Rivera picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 2 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 9. On the season, he is now 7-4. Ken Mace picked up the save, his 5th.
Rico had a key at-bat for South Beach early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and gave South Beach an early 2-0 lead.
"It's nice to come out on top today," said Rico.
The third-place Airmen have lost 9 straight games.
