The Blaze had to overcome a good performance from Alameda pitcher Bryan McKinney to claim a 7-3 win at The Ballpark on the Beach. McKinney went 5 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. South Beach reliever Ángel Ruíz was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Alex Ratledge took the loss. Ricardo Gómez locked down his 2nd save.
Dimian Menres aided the South Beach cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the right fielder went 1 for 2 with 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs.
In comments to the South Beach Bulletin, Menres admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
South Beach, now 7-3, has gotten their season off to a good start.
