Hammond pitcher Jay Hood made his presence felt in the 5-0 Herons triumph over the Mt. Vernon Bulls. Hood threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Rob Rocha. Hammond currently is in first place in the Silver A at 62-31.

With two out in the bottom of the fifth, Stanley Belote barreled up a fastball from Jim Unknown. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Herons in front, 4-0.

In comments to the Hammond Chronicle, Hood insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
