Thrilling Victory Pushes Herons Win Streak to 5
|
The Hammond Herons and Phoenix Hotspur U-21 played a tight game at Hotspur Kiddie Complex, with the visitors getting the hard-fought win.
The Phoenix Hotspur U-21 got a superb performance from pitcher Ismael Lara. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Hammond. The Herons won the game, 2-1. In spite of the loss, Lara was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Esteban Jiménez earned the save for Hammond, his 13th of the year.
Fernando Martínez found himself in a pressure situation in the top of the ninth. Facing Phoenix hurler Richard Osborn, the 21-year-old third baseman hit a sacrifice fly. His 10th RBI of the season put the Herons on top, 2-1.
"There was no wiggle room in this one," said Martínez.
The Hotspur U-21 have now dropped 6 straight.
